The need for a preschool/crèche was identified in 1972. In 1973 the Joseph Stone playroom was erected to meet this need. At this stage both the toddlers and young children were being cared for together in one room.

In 1999 the storerooms of the newly built Primary School were converted into a crèche for toddlers. The first crèche teacher was Sr Charlotte, one of the Pallottine nuns and in 2001 a trained crèche teacher was appointed to assist.

With the change in the profile of the patients admitted to St Joseph's Home, there has been a steady increase in the number of younger children. As such we were fortunate to receive a large donation from a German donor and in 2004 we were able to build a beautiful new crèche which can accommodate up to 40 toddlers.

The crèche forms an essential part of the development plan of each child. Due to their specific illness and prolonged periods of hospitalization these toddlers are developmentally delayed and need to receive as much stimulation and exposure to activities of daily living as possible. After a couple of months they flourish and have made up the initial deficits in their development. Our Crèche receives no government funding and is solely dependent on the generous donations from our friends to cover its operational expenses. Please consider making a donation today.
